USA Biweekly Report - S21 Outpaces Initial S20 Sales, Shows Strong YoY Growth

Feb 22, 2021 | Author : Maurice Klaehne

Overview:

This report is based on our US weekly smartphone tracker which tracks the sales of all smartphone models sold in the USA.
It captures the changes in market share of key brands like Apple, Samsung, LG, Motorola, ZTE, TCL and others.
This report adds context to the numbers and provides guidance on what is likely to happen in the market in the coming month.

Samsung’s latest Galaxy S21 series was announced during the CES week in January 2021. January and February are traditionally low sales months as Americans have just come out of the holiday sales period. However, Samsung used the momentum of CES to debut its latest flagship series, instead of likely having a more muted launch event in February.

The strategy seems to have paid off with the S21 series’ sales growing strongly year-over-year (YoY) in the first full week of sales when compared to the S20 series, according to our US Weekly Sales data. Samsung is pushing more people to upgrade their older devices this year, with the Galaxy S9 and S10 users getting up to $800 off if they trade in their device. Therefore, a bigger base of older S-series users is upgrading to the S21 series, especially the more affordable the S21.

With the current momentum, the S21 could see higher sales compared to the S20.
