Overview:
India’s smartphone shipments declined 11% YoY to reach over 45 million units in Q3 2022. The YoY decline, which is the first ever for a Q3, can be attributed to the high base last year due to the pent-up demand during Q3 2021, as well as lower consumer demand in the entry-tier and budget segments in Q3 2022. Chinese brands share declined to 72% in Sep 2022 due to high shipments from Samsung and Apple. Chinese brands led the Indian smartphone market in Sep 2022, capturing 72% share. However, the share declined in Sep as compared to previous months due to high competition from Samsung and Apple.
Online channels share further increased to 58% in Sep 2022 and has also surpassed the share of Sep 2021. The start of the festive season sale towards the end of the month on both Flipkart and Amazon was the major driving factor to it. Though there was a drop in share of offline channel, the shipments increased by 23% MoM in Sep 2022. The reason being various LFRs and retail stores offering promotional discounts on the onset of festive season.
