Nokia Surprises While Ericsson Grows 5G Footprint - But Dark Clouds Loom In China

Overview:

Nokia posted better-than-expected 1Q 2021 financials, including improved margins in the critical Mobile Networks division, suggesting that the vendor is closing its 5G portfolio competitiveness gap with rivals. Meanwhile Ericsson continues to increase its 5G footprint in the US and other markets and expects that this will continue throughout 2021. However, dark clouds loom in China for both vendors as Chinese operators prepare for the next 5G auction.
