Overview:
Nordic duo Ericsson and Nokia both had a good 2021. With strong cash generation from its core networks business, Ericsson had one of the strongest years in its history. Meanwhile Nokia provided proof that its turnaround is on track, with a solid improvement in margins and a return to profitability, but needs to increase its RAN market share during 2022. As the deployment of 5G SA cores accelerates, the challenge in 2022 and beyond will be to enable their CSP and enterprise customers to monetize their 5G network investments.
This report provides a back-to-back review of Ericsson and Nokia’s recent fourth quarter and full year 2021 financial results and provides a detailed insight into the business units and strategies of the two vendors.
In addition, the report reviews selected announcements made during the quarter with analysis and comment on the strategic significance of these announcements for the vendors and the industry in general.
