Overview:

After the raise in tariff to 25% the US has imposed a trade ban on Huawei. China has no intention to cede ground either. It has also imposed a 25% tariff on US exports to China. It is unlikely that this battle will find an easy or quick resolution. The battle for the future lies in this trade war. Technology industries and financial markets are both intertwined. The world trade and finance system the US has created and maintained over decades is being challenged.

In this short report, we analyse the prevailing situation and provide a near-term and long-term outlook of the impact that the US-China trade war will have on the global smartphone industry as well as the economies and policies of the two countries.
