Overview:

The government of India announced a hike in GST on mobiles from 12% to 18% w.e.f. April 1, 2020 to correct inverted duty structure. This resulted in price hike announcements by most of OEMs as they could not absorb the effect due to already struggling profit margins. The report analyses impact of this GST hike on India smartphone market including OEMs, overall pricing and various price tiers. It is expected that less than INR 6000 will be impacted most as consumers in this segment are already facing liquidity crunch due to lockdown situation in the country and would like to save for essential purchases.
