Why Chinese Brands Haven’t Been Able To Crack The US Smartphone Market

Oct 27, 2017 |

According to the latest research from Counterpoint’s Market Monitor program, the US overall smartphone market saw a 14% YoY increase in smartphone shipments. The uptick was helped by solid results in both postpaid and prepaid markets.

Overview:

Globally, Chinese handset OEMs own more than 43% of smartphone market share but in the US it is 18%.  ZTE and Alcatel have cracked the top 5 breaking through with solid volumes within prepaid channels.  Motorola (Lenovo) remains a niche but well-known vendor within Verizon.  Others have been relegated to the US open channel with very limited growth prospects.

In this report, we have analyzed barriers for new players in US smartphone market.
