Nov 25, 2014 |

Following up on the series of quarterly Market Monitor reports sent out please find our latest report highlighting Value Share for top 20 brands in smartphone and feature phone segments through Q3 2014.
Summary of the report
  • Global handset market reached roughly US$75 Billion in wholesale revenues up 5% annually during Q3 2014
  • Smartphone market reached roughly US$72 Billion in revenues up 5% annually due to healthy smartphone shipments growth (+19% YoY)
  • Overall smartphone industry ASP continued to decline (-18% YoY) after reaching all-time high in 2012, as most of the growth is coming from sub-$200 smartphones and across emerging markets which is clearly evident from rise in revenue share of Chinese OEMs
  • Asia (including China) contributed to almost 40% of the global smartphone industry revenues and more than half of global smartphone industry volumes surpassing Samsung which captured 26% share
  • Apple topped the list with roughly 33% share thanks to a nice uptick from Apple iPhone 6 series launch in September
  • The market share numbers between Apple & Samsung have reversed sequentially
  • Samsung share is down from 37% captured at its peak in the same quarter last year to 26% in Q3 2014
  • This is mainly because Samsung’s revenues were down 26% annually and 15% sequentially due to dip in smartphone demand relative to the market growth.
  • The top 6 OEMs captured three-fourths of the total industry smartphone revenues
  • Meanwhile, Xiaomi’s revenue share doubled compared to Q3 2013 and LG revenues reached a new high increasing its share above 5% mark
  • If we leave out of Samsung, Apple generated more smartphone revenues than the next twenty smartphone brands combined in our rankings in Q3 2014
